- Rockville History & FactsThe oldest fact about Rockville and the reason for its name is its tremendous deposits of granite. The out-croppings (core-stones) are a very visible sign of this natural resource; however, it's not the only reason a community was established here. The original settlers were farmers; they came because of land, the woods, and plentiful game; the Sauk River was one of the 'highways' they followed, while others came ont eh historic Manannah Trail cross-country. The main lakes, Grand and Pleasant, plus the many small ones, were also a draw for the early settlers.
